Just a quick apology for my lag in posting. In the last couple of months I’ve had my share of Life Happens stuff and I just haven’t had the bandwidth to deal with much else. But I’m just returning from a cartoonists gathering in Geneva and have several photos to post so this will be a two or three-parter, which I hope will make up for my extended absence.
I love these international events because it gives me the chance to catch up with my overseas colleagues. The occasion was the presentation of the Kofi Annan Courage in Cartooning Award by Freedom Cartoonists Foundation , a biennial award which recognizes the courage of a cartoonist working under difficult circumstances because of free speech restrictions or government figures who don’t take kindly to being satirized.
As you probably know, the Swiss are known for fondue so of course the first night fondue is what we had. Our host, the world renowned editorial cartoonist Patrick Chappatte took us to La Buvette des Bains, a popular restaurant sitting on a peninsula in Lac Le’man. The restaurant was packed to the gills and I was certain all that aroma from the bowls and bowls of melted cheese was going to put my jet-lagged head right to sleep.
