Memories & windows
Another London story…
I was in my late twenties and had just finished working on an animated film. I had some money saved up so I decided to try to find work and live in London, which had always been a dream of mine. After a short stay in hotels I rented a room with a retired couple of journalists who used to work for the BBC in Ethiopia. They told the most marvelous stories about their stay there and some pretty hilarious ones once they returned and re-entered the London social scene. I adored them and kept in touch for several years after returning to the States. They’re both gone now but during my recent visit to London I think I found the apartment- it’s the one on the top floor, which in grander days would have been the servants’ quarters. I can still remember looking out of a window in the evenings, just staring at the rooftops and thinking about all the things I wanted to do in the future. Did a lot of dreaming those days
