Once again, you've brilliantly and poignantly captured our country's predicament.

He knows he’s underwater with the people. He no doubt was terribly disappointed by the reception he received from “his” generals. Maybe he’s worried that we realize who the true “enemies of the people” are… Peeking out through a flag in distress is a brilliant metaphor for the tired, small tyrant wannabe. Thanks, Ann.

Spot on!

It is becoming scarier and scarier.

June Kahn's avatar

VERY scarier because trump and his 2025 handlers have done a great job of ignoring the Constitution, Bill of Rights and anything else that protects the citizens from the government.

Dorothy Wiese's avatar

They have also done a great job spreading this poison, via MAGA media. CNN has an article by an MD about the recent damage caused by trump and Jr.

We aren't enemies from within, we are citizens who want to uphold the Constitution. However, I will count myself as one of 47's enemies.

Enemy of the enemy within.

We need you, Ann...now, more than ever!

I remember McCarthy, but this current maladministration almost makes me nostalgic for him and for Nixon.

I re-watched "All the President's Men" a few days ago and yes, I felt nostalgic for The Washington Post of 1972 and how all three branches of government stood up for democracy and against tyranny.

I did as well, also was the movie “The Post” ( it’s free on YouTube) it reminds you of when “The Fourth Estate” always spoke truth to power. I long for those days !

Skepticat, I have a bumper sticker on my car that reads "I miss Nixon." you aren't alone!

Very worrisome. Unbelievable. The President of the US falls to new lows. Yes, he may be setting up for even more actions.

Brilliant. So many levels. "Hiding behind the flag" is just one. Your Silma Lecture, at the University of Minnesota last evening, was a delight to attend (virtually.) It will be available online later in October.

Brendan Classon's avatar

So many levels indeed! How about the flag being inverted? A delightful mockery of the entitled insurrectionist SCOTUS spouses Thomas and Alito. BRILLIANTLY clever!

I attended virtually as well!

A real treat on so many levels!

I also attended the Silma Lecture virtually. Thank you, Ann!

Bloody hell but that's a brilliant comment on our skeezy, demented leader!

It is great that Substack gives us this opportunity to encourage you, Ann, to keep it up, day after day, like Sisyphus up the hill and down the hill. We make a fine team you and us, sustaining each other through the madness of the times, be they eternal and everlasting, what the hell if it is hell all the way? We can make light of anything forever, no?

I don't understand how anyone isn't scared about what is going on. Of course it could be that they think it isn't happening to them, so ......

That and they have their heads buried so far up FAUX and its ilk, and/or their little Antisocial Media screens...

At what point does the judgment of the Commander and Chief become so skewed that he has to be court martialed and stood before a firing squad? And who makes that call? I'm interested in observing how it all plays out.

Morgan 🌲's avatar

I’m interested in that actually happening.

John Johnson's avatar

tRump and his sycophants are a danger to us all!😡

It doesn't matter how serious our circumstances become--it is essential that we refuse to take them seriously! Attitude, orientation, perspective represent the Power Of Interpretation and Point of View. The weapons of stand-up comedians, Court Jesters, and editorial cartoonists throughout time. Everything rides on how we see what we look at, and what we say about what we see. No?

Funny, 'Spot On' is my response as well.
