Spot-on, Ann!! ❤️👍🏻.but the real question is WHY is his insanity not evident to people on the "right"? We have been bombarded with trump's nonsensical rantings and ravings for so long that he's normalizing fundamentally terrifying behaviors

D Schmitt's avatar

@Mark Walker - Agreed, it is a tribal cult allegiance. But, I do believe that all the enablers will share the blame, guilt and hopefully conviction eventually. Of course they will be given due process under the Constitution. We are not Jonathon Ross.

It almost makes me wish I believed in Heaven and Hell. I would like to be standing behind the gate with St.Peter , harp in my hand and my own little cloud, when THIS lot turn up - dragging their billions behind them, thinking they can pay to get in.

Jay Jay Eh's avatar

Well, it’s also a book of prophecy, and Trump seems to be exemplifying Rev.12:12 quite well. (Rejoicing in heavens because devil kicked out from there, but ‘woe to the earth’ because he knows he has but ‘a short time left’).

— Time will tell.

Elisabeth Birker's avatar

😂😂 that is a nice image😃✨ I love that you are standing there harp 🪉 in hand👌🏻😂

Lady Emsworth's avatar

Thanks, Elizabeth. I wonder if in Heaven I'll be able to get the sheet music for how to play "Keep on knockin' but you cain't come in. . . " on the harp?

Albert Studdard's avatar

Dante would have to build a new circle of hell to accommodate them.

Kant would have said this lot proves the existence of an afterlife where

good and evil get their just rewards. I agree with Lady Emsworth, whatever

happens to them happens in this dimension.

Skepticat's avatar

You're considerably more optimistic—and generous—than I.

Skepticat's avatar

Thank you! We all need that kind—and a lot more-of encouragement.

L B Rose's avatar

Leaders of the MAGA cult can convince their minions not to believe their own eyes. They may see a mentally diseased guy spewing hate, but MAGAs are told that the man will fix everything. Also, Faux "News" never shows them any clips where Dear Leader looks bad. Basically, we're living Orwell's 1984... and it's a horror show...

Lorrie's avatar

I totally agree, I wonder how many of us are aware of what is actually happening. I am afraid it is a relatively small percentage which makes me realize how tragic humanity is in this century when I would have hoped we might have evolved and function at a higher level. There are just so many uneducated uninformed people disengaged unquestioning and sheeplike.

Jay Jay Eh's avatar

I think it’s a small number ‘hoodwinked’ by FOX - at least compared to the rest of America & the world.

Unfortunately, those less gullible are currently underrepresented in govt & the demented King & court jesters are ‘gettin’ while the gettin’s good’.

— Trumpers are pressing hard as the polls disfavour them & midterms loom.

Lorrie's avatar

Yes, but, I'm pretty well convinced that there will be no midterms or if there are Trump will say the election was rigged and therefore the results are not legitimate and he deny the election.

Jay Jay Eh's avatar

Perhaps … but if doing so he will run into the same problems as before, because SOME republicans WILL win … so how can he say ‘elections are rigged’ only when (R) candidates aren’t 100% elected?

— He runs the risk of looking even sillier than he does now! 🤣

Lorrie's avatar

Your point is well taken. We are two sides of a coin: me with a glass half empty and you with a glass half full. Or maybe better said by contrasting an optimist versus a pessimist. I hope the optimists win out but I am a realist in addition to being a pessimist.

Michael Murphy's avatar

"1984" is fiction, and very frightening. So is "It Can't Happen Here," by Sinclair Lewis. But Lewis got a lot closer to what's actually happening here and now than Orwell did, so he scares me more than Orwell.

Lady Emsworth's avatar

This relates to something I said the other day - the Renee Good murder caused such a ripple of horror because she was White. The killing of Black people has been accepted. I refuse to say "normalised" because that reduces the reality.

We don't get horrified by Blacks being shot - and we don't get horrified by trump's insanity. It's just another day in the US of A.

Skepticat's avatar

I don't accept killing or shooting anyone—white, Black, red, yellow, blue, or green—and I'm horrified and sickened by it. However, I can think of one natural demise I shall be happy about and relieved by, but the cheeseburgers simply cannot work fast enough.

Leslie A Stensen's avatar

I agree with the natural demise. Don't want to make him a martyr by having someone do him in. Trip at the top of air force one steps deplaning, no one around.

Skepticat's avatar

Actually, how about tripping at the top with a big audience to observe but not help? An AP photographer on hand might be nice.

June Kahn's avatar

He's never unprotected because they know how many people want him dead.

Lady Emsworth's avatar

He thinks he's "The King" - he even said he thinks he LOOKS like Elvis(🙄😜🤣)

So, sitting on the golden can with five pounds of burger meat impacted in his rectum will do for me. . .

Michael Murphy's avatar

The problem with a "natural demise" is that all too many denizens of MAGA World simply wouldn't accept that it could be natural. If Trump got killed by lightning while on the golf course, the MAGAts would accuse the "leftist lunatics" of using illegal weather control technology.

Bobbette Strauss's avatar

Some of us are simply biding our time. This is still a Democracy - if we can keep it…

Leslie A Stensen's avatar

I was offered a room from a cousin in Norway, while biding my time!! Yes, we will keep our democracy.

Spencer $ Sally Jones's avatar

Millions of Americans are closing their ears and eyes determined to neither believe all this is real nor to allow anyone to talk about politics to them. They concentrate on their daily lives.

Christina A.'s avatar

Just like the Germans in the 1930s.

Lady Emsworth's avatar

Well, I hope they are concentrating on prices sky rocketing, jobs being lost, health care disappearing - and the prospect of their loved ones in the military being marched off to war.

June Kahn's avatar

More shame on him and his henchmen. We're so confused by his insanity that we don't know how to proceed. We've never been confronted by a president who's out of his freaking mind .

Spencer $ Sally Jones's avatar

Try to take a little time for yourself each day. Read a fun book or just listen to music or watch a football game.

marshaed's avatar

Because a lot of them live and die by Fox news.

Arkansas Blue's avatar

Unfortunately, if all his fans were watching faux spews, newsmax and whatever else there is, it would not add up to the number of his followers. Do you know how many people get ALL of their news from places like facebook, etc? It is truly frightening.

David Gardiner's avatar

Substack is no better if users are not persuaded to shop around, and vet their sources. Left leaning media bubbles are no more productive than those on the Right. Critical thinking trumps propaganda.

Lady Emsworth's avatar

Meh - I agree - to an extent.

But where are you going to find a MAGA substack or media site that shows you anything of the real truth? It's all delusional, smoke and mirrors.

David Gardiner's avatar

Having skimmed a few MAGA adjacent feeds (too hard to follow most of the tripe), I find it to be aggrandizing demonstrably false declarations. If the specific bubbles are tight enough, the rationale is circular, lulling the lazy into a "Don't think, just believe" state of unawareness.

Lady Emsworth's avatar

A lot of MAGA arrive fully primed to "Don't think, just believe."

Thank you, the Evangelical/Catholic church.

I'm a firm believer in the Christian ETHIC - but am happy to ask questions about it's origins and organisation.

Seems to me that a lot of Church goers go simply because their tribal mores demand it - and asking questions can be dangerous for your status in the tribe. And a lot of the time, the resultant approach is "Don't think - just SAY you believe" - and just carry on doing what you and your ancestors have always done.

Which is a good way to get stuck in the stone age.

BabsPHL's avatar

Not ALL- I'm just sick of the hourly "breaking news" - in print, on TV; just have to ignore it! I'll do what I can to protest, write Congress, boycott enabler businesses; but I have to take a newsbreak, cuz everything is NOT breaking, including our Country - we just need to fight back!

Jay Jay Eh's avatar

It is good not to become overrun by the news … we each have our own tolerance level and need to listen to our inner compass that way. But I am glad that reliable news is available when I’m ready for it, or need it.

BabsPHL's avatar

Agree, but news is NOT digging into what's really happening - just giving air time to the worst people in America - staff, cabinet. With NO truth and honesty from "leaders" media just sucks up and prints/reports whatever they say. Just like soviet russia!

Jay Jay Eh's avatar

Check out Stephen Collinson of CNN perhaps …

https://www.cnn.com/2026/01/19/politics/nato-division-trump-greenland-threat-analysis?cid=ios_app

— I wouldn’t compare his take to ‘Soviet Russia’ … or The Atlantic, The New Yorker, Mother Jones, BBC, the Guardian …

June Kahn's avatar

They're all mindless idiots who are leading us straight into Hell

Lorrie's avatar

I think the "people on the right get it" but they like much of what he is doing and are benefiting financially. After all, it is the lunatics in Trump's cabinet that are propping him up and calling most of the shots. Trump is now a senile old man with a propensity for violence and a twisted sense of his all-consuming assertion of power. He is still acting just like he did on his disgusting TV show and he can no longer tell the difference between what is real and what is not, in other words his deranged mind sees his world as just a game. Trump's behavior now is so extreme that his insanity is so pronounced that somehow someway someone has to step up and put a stop to him.

Nancy Harrington's avatar

I am of the opinion that fox news is a big contributor to the blinders of the people on the 'right' who still support him. I live in a fairly conservative community and fox news is frequently playing on the tvs at the gym: I am appalled at the crazy lies they are spewing!

Leigh Horne's avatar

They've heard plenty from me and others trained to diagnose. They are willfully blind.

Leslie A Stensen's avatar

His insanity is clearly evident, however, those who are also in power, don't want to lose that power. What price they all will pay is yet to be determined!! And, they will pay.

Michael Murphy's avatar

"they will pay. "

So will we.

June Kahn's avatar

Instead of behaving as president, trump is acting as a desperately angry maniac who should be removed from office immediately,

as he further declines into insanity.

Linda Weide's avatar

Yes! Spot on! We need a Congress that is clamoring for his removal, and speaking it to the press every day that he is insane. That is a story that should stick!

Rita Hayen's avatar

Thank you! He is crazy!

susan gentleman's avatar

Not crazy. Psychopathic.

One can only hope this senile sociopath takes the entire enabling

cretin squad of the GOP with him when he goes down

Jay Jay Eh's avatar

Like Lindsey Graham predicted … before he allowed himself to partake of the King’s delicacies & slurp off his golden platter.

Larry Arnold's avatar

Truly sad. A man child with no moral compass and not in his right mind. We are in dark times.

Ellen D. Murphy's avatar

I keep saying: What would have been absolutely unimaginable a year ago is now just Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday ...

Joe Tye's avatar

I am continually reminded of Liz Cheney's comment at the J6 hearing - Trump will soon be gone but the dishonor of the GOP will be a forever stain. There is more backbone in a bowl of chicken noodle soup than in the entire congressional and judicial leadership of the Republican party.

Laurel Rutz's avatar

Love your very accurate metaphor!🤣

Joe Tye's avatar

A word picture is worth a thousand plain words ;-)

Michael Murphy's avatar

I'm a word nerd, and lover of plays on words, similes, metaphors, etc. Would you mind if I copied your metaphor into my quotes database? I'll pass it on with proper attribution.

Joe Tye's avatar

T.S. Eliot reportedly said that good poets borrow and great poets steal. As a word nerd you should do both. No attribution needed. I also think the names we use are very important. It was 100% predictable that when Lethal Pete sought to rename the dept of defense the dept of war that it would not be long before we had a war. I did a previous spoof on his renaming of military bases (including The Alamo):

Michael Murphy's avatar

This one is (maybe) from Wilson Mizner: 'Stealing ideas from one person is plagiarism; stealing ideas from many people is research."

Lorraine Lawson's avatar

How about the straight jacket on his face!!

Skepticat's avatar

I was going to suggest the straitjacket ought to be tightly around his neck, but covering his mouth would be excellent!

IronmanNC's avatar

Exactly! This pathetic excuse for a human belongs in a prison for the criminally insane. The 34-count criminal thinks extortion is 'the art of the deal'.

Jim Dollar's avatar

Trump is stuck in the developmental mentality of "the terrible two's" The people who voted for him had every opportunity to know what they were doing. To dismiss, discount, deny, ignore WHAT THEY KNEW is on their cumulative record forever. The rest of us wait for "something to happen" to relieve us of the burden, though the memory will never be forgotten and the scars will never disappear.

Susan Marchus's avatar

Certifiably crazy.

John Crowe's avatar

Just right. I too had a hard time believing he would do this. But upon reflection... yep, he's just dumb enough and crass enough, as he shows daily. What an embarrassment.

Maureen's avatar

He is clearly certifiable! Come on Congress do your job!

Phil's avatar

Which wars did he end? There was nothing left of Gaza to destroy. He has all but abandoned Ukraine to Russia. Is he referring to the speed and fishing boat operators he had murdered by our Navy?

Grrrrrr!

25th amendment perfection, Ann. Once again, you've hit it out of the ballpark.
