My overseas travels are now complete and while I had a very good time visiting with cartooning colleagues (plus I’m grateful I managed to get through my presentations without making an ass of myself), I’m eager to get back into work.
Only spent a couple of days in Lucerne but squeezed in a morning walk before heading over to Swiss Media Forum. A few touristy pics:
Lucerne has these lovely covered bridges which go back to the Middle Ages. The most famous one, Chapel Bridge, was packed with tourists so I wandered to a smaller one which had these wonderful triangular paintings inside.
Some of them looked to be quite dark in subject matter, like this one with a figure (I’m guessing) representing Death peeking out behind a figure. A real contrast with Lucerne’s picturesque setting.
I love trade signs. Especially this one.
How cool is this? I think I need to do another windows mural.

Now on to the conference…

And as I’ve mentioned before, my favorite part of these overseas trips is meeting cartooning colleagues. It doesn’t matter which country a cartoonist is from, we all love to talk geeky, shop talk.
(L to R) Tom Künzli, Silvan Wenmann, me, Ramses Morales Izquierdo (originally from Cuba), and his partner Regina Vetter.
I’ll leave you with a photo I took that evening at an outdoor reception for the conference. Sitting on another bench away from the crowd with a glass of wine, I took a deep breath. I had finished all my speaking obligations (always a relief for me- not my comfort zone) and then I tried to process everything which had happened these past five months. It’s good to slow down, for me anyways, and spend the time to truly appreciate the events in one’s life- especially the unexpected.
Exquisite photos and warm commentary!
The photos you took are proof that artistic talents spread across whatever media is available to the artist. 👏🏻
