Also, note how the court seems to have different attitudes about ruling procedures between now and, for example, three years ago. Now, these emergency rulings zoom right out. Before, rulings were slow walked, to say the least.

Nothing about the Supreme Court makes sense relative to the past, the Constitution or laws. The extremists were preapproved by Trump to do his bidding and the many dissents from the liberal Justices are meaningless and powerless, they are nothing more than bookends.

Actually, the dissents will someday provide the basis for overturning what clearly are inequitable and political rulings by the Extreme Court*.

(Kudos to Jon Margolis for the new name for the extraconstitutional court).

Yes, the dissenters are laying the groundwork for future rulings that will--God willing--right the ship.

I pray I will live to see that. But I fear I won't.

I'm 66. Even if I make it 20 more years, Schlitz Kavanagh, Gorsuch, and Handmaid ACB (otherwise known as "Ofdonald") will still be on the court. Will they be in the minority? Not if some combination of Thomas, Alito, and/or Roberts decide to retire before 2029, allowing orange Joffrey to nominate another 40-something designate of the Federalist Society.

Sorry- I'm feeling glass-half-empty today.

We would need a Democratic-majority Congress (veto-proof) ready and willing to reform the Supreme Court. It's a stretch, but it could happen!

Thought exercise: what would happen if the next Democratic President simply appointed 10 new Justices the day after taking office?

If the Chief Justice refuses to administer the oath of office, another justice volunteers.

(It's certainly not any crazier than what we've seen in the last 6 months.)

I wish I had your optimism, Nadine. But Democrats can't even hold a simple majority in this climate, let alone get to 60 seats.

Nor can I picture a world where Thpmas and Alito are impeached AND convicted by the Senate - even if a miracle happens and the Democrats hit the Tribeca in 2028.

There is no end to my disgust with the Supreme Court. I knew we were lost when they gave total immunity to the president for anything he does in office. Talk about jerking people around. Employees are fired, rehired, refired, and the Supreme Court gives no reasoning, just nibbles around the edges of Constitutional issues, while making these rulings. (But I did chuckle when I saw Ann's perfect artwork and capture of the individual justices who are driving these rulings. What talent!!)

Marvelous again. Love the wormy apple and the upside down flag. Guess these Judges never heard, “Power corrupts; Absolute power corrupts absolutely.”

Geez-laweeze! Good grief, I want to laugh at your sarcastic brilliance, A, but I can’t, not when those judges are beyond contempt of the law and their places in history. Robert’s and his despicable brethren + ACB will be remembered for their cowardice, lack of morality, and the gross inhumanity they enabled

This is really a classic Ann Telnaes at her best in both the commentary and the execution. I have no faith in the Congress as it has ceded its powers to the Pig. I have no faith in the Supreme Court as it has shown that it has no problem being a political arm of the Pig rather then exercise thoughtful, legal judgement. My (and our) last hope is the voters and very importantly, commentators like Ann who will not remain quiet when there are obvious wrongs being perpetrated. Hopefully she, and others with a voice, will continue to exercise their free speech in an effort to show the voters that the people in office need to be put out.

A perfect description of the corrupt Supreme Court. And even worse, just another example of Trump's complete destruction of our democratic form of government. Mission complete for the MAGA fascists. And all we have is a newly awakened Barak Obama saying, "Democrats need to toughen up against the Republicans." Really? Isn't that helpful?

Exactly, they are slowly unraveling this Democracy and this country. I did email to them and reminded them that history would regard them very unkindly. Absolutely disgraceful on their part to be so eager to please the wannabe dictator.
