Love the cartoon, but here's the problem: Musk IS in charge.

Just noticed the "Liked by Ann Telnaes." I'm flattered, but unworthy. What I'd prefer to see, instead of a compliment, is for Ms. Telnaes to reach for the level of irritation achieved by former Boston Globe cartoonist Paul Szep and captured in his collection entitled, "Them Damn Pictures." My wife has an autographed copy somewhere...

P.S. According to several online sources, Mr. Szep is CANADIAN. How utterly appropriate!

You might want to check out my archives from 2016 on. I've been drawing about Trump and the danger he represents from the beginning. Irritation seems a bit tame.

I've been on a panel with Szep- very nice and talented guy.

I echo Roger—he IS in charge, and he's totally out of control. No real authority, no security clearance, no idea of what's involved, no way to replace the knowledge and skills of public servants he's tossing out, and a desire to destroy the entire government. Gee, what could go wrong?

I might well trust them more than I trust him—and I consider him malignantly batpoop crazy and totally unworthy of a scridlet of trust.

Come to think of it, just consider how preferable that is to the gut of his fat, sloppy sidekick.

You would think that, with all his ill-gotten gains, he could afford tee-shirts that fit, but you'd be wrong. I for one have absolutely no interest in looking at Muskrat's navel. And even less interest in him.

Trump has gotten what he’s wanted all his life. To be a figure head that goes and plays golf or flies to some destination and takes a vacation. All the while Elon is doing the dirty work. The thing is Elon loves what he’s doing knowing that Trump will back him to the hilt.

I'd kind of like "back" and "hilt" to be in a different order, with the hilt attached to something very sharp.

Trump is only POTUS because Musk owns him, could get him elected and is useful as a distraction while he, himself runs the country and destroys the government of the US for whatever reasons he seems to have.

Musk, himself, could never have been elected even if he could have run which, of course, he couldn't- not having been born In the USA.

Stalin, Mussolini, and Hitler were the three-ring circus center stage. Theirs the histrionics and spectacle. While their administrators tended to the logistics of destruction. But here is Musk, strutting as he heaps wreckage upon wreckage. While letting Trump feel he's in charge. And Republicans act as though it were simply business as usual. In their dreams, perhaps.

THANK YOU! I've been thinking about the DOGES of Italy a lot since Musk took unelected power and your cartoon captures the corrupt and Machiavellian nature that he is apparently channeling from those centuries of Venetian rule (697-1797).

I will admit to losing sleep last night as I considered what we are watching. Our democracy is falling into an oligarchy of a few billionaires who have paid a felon millions of dollars as a small investment to buy the United States.

Reminds me of Mel Brooks, History of the World, when King Louie is told "Your excellency. the peasants are revolting" and he responds, as he is shooting them as skeet. "You said it!! They stink on ice". Perfect caricature for Elon Muskovich.

Musk is a lot of things, but stupid isn’t one of them. What’s the arrangement, contract with Trump? One gets to grift, the other gets to govern? Seems like it. Trump’s campaign benefitted from Musk to the tune of 1/4 billion. There has to be something more long term in the arrangement for Musk. Co-presidency? Trump is too lazy to take the work of the presidency serious. We all saw that during Covid and his solutions/policies. Most of them centred on reducing any impact to his chances in the upcoming (at that time) 2020 election. Now? Trump may be immune as president, but Musk as co-president is not except via pardon, so Trump will always have the upper hand.
